Martin satisfied after ‘08 Subaru test

Markko Martin testing new Subaru Impreza WRC 2008

Subaru test driver Markko Martin believes the team have made a "promising" start to the development of their new Impreza WRC2008 after the first week of testing in the car.

The team are relying on the new-shape WRC2008 to revive their fortunes following two poor seasons in which the former champions have struggled to even reach the podium.

Martin completed nearly 1,000 kilometres of gravel testing with the WRC2008 in Sardinia this week, and was satisfied with the team’s achievements so far.

"The testing was very promising, and though it is obviously too early to comment on performance, myself and the team have learned a lot about the car to help us make all the right decisions at this early stage," he said.

"It’s a great feeling to be back with the team again - it’s been a while since I was last here in 2001 and there are some old faces and some new faces. The team are all speaking the same language which is important in understanding the direction of the car, which is crucial.

"It’s a very exciting car for the team and for Subaru, and it’s a privilege to be involved with it. It’s always a good feeling to drive a new car, and I’m looking forward to the next test where we will start to focus on performance."

The WRC2008 is set to make its competitive debut midway through this year’s championship, although no firm deadline has been set for its first rally.
