2008 Impreza STI Spotted!!!

2008 Impreza STI Spotted

Subaru’s hotly-anticipated WRX STi has just been spotted circling Germany’s Nürburgring, and our men in the trees at KGP Photography have captured a prototype both on- and off- track.

If this mule is any judge, the standard WRX’s controversial mug has been reworked somewhat, with the egg-crate grille being broomed in favor of a mesh grille, and a more interesting front bumper cap and lower fascia has taken up residence down low. Flared fenders front and back add some much-needed aggression to the STI’s form, as does a rather meek rear wing. Out back, the prototype’s new rear bumper nicely exhibits a set of dual exhausts.

Hello,

The Subaru WRX STi has now broken cover with this prototype caught testing on the Nürburgring. The STi appears to have fixed some of the more controversial styling elements of the standard Impreza and even the WRX. The egg-crate grille so disliked by the Subaru faithful has been replaced with a sportier mesh grille on the STi, and its reworked front bumper also recaptures some of the previous WRX’s visual magic. A new rear bumper design incorporates a new dual exhaust set-up as well.

Flared front and rear fenders appear to be part of the STi formula, along with a tastefully aggressive rear wing that extends above the backlight. The wing is, no doubt, functional, but it also adds some much needed attitude to the new Impreza’s shape.

Spy Shot vs. Spy Shot: EVO X and WRX STi

2008 Lancer Evolution X Spotted

2008 Impreza STI Spotted

Arm your intercoolers, the showdown between the new Mitsubishi EVO X and Subaru WRX STi is almost at hand. KGP Photography recently nabbed both cars doing testing at the famous Nurburgring in Germany, and they are each shaping up to be beasts compared to their pedestrian counterparts. Though Subaru decided to be different and go with a five-door hatchback form, the hump in the back doesn’t detract from what the large fenders, deep chin spoiler and gaping maw of an air intake are trying to accomplish. And seriously, can matte black be an available color choice?

The EVO X, meanwhile, has a face that perfectly frames its intercooler in the front bumper for all to see. Add to that a giant rear wing on the trunk and larger multi-spoke wheels, and again it’s clear that this car is ready to take up the torch.

Both cars will be all-wheel drive, both will have 300 or more horsepower and both are waiting impatiently to tear the other apart in a decent comparison test. Until then, we give you these galleries to do battle with.

The EVO picture looks like it was taken at Carousel. As someone who nearly flew off here (I wasn’t driving, making it scarier), where the heck was the photographer standing?

i guess this picture(as well as all other spy shots) was taken using huge uber-super-telephoto lenses. with them you can take very close pics :))

when you making a spy-shot, it is necessary to stay far away from the test-mule, or it’s guards will kill you :) :)

we just got some 2008 wrx and sport models in and both the hatch and sedan look superb in person…..everyone at the dealership wasn’t sure how the new generation would turn out but everyone seems very impressed with the new styling….pictures do not do it justice.

and as for the evo x. its great competition which inspires both companies to produce better products.

can’t wait for the sti any way it turns out.

Both cars will be good to ride and run like stink but that doesn’t chage the fact that the’re both freaking ugly. Evos always looked good as opposed to most Imprezas but this hatch is the worst ever and the new Evo isn’t far behind

i agree with “rallytaxi.” the new sti looks much better than the 5-door wrx but again, Subaru was never really about looks, they never made a “good” looking car in my opinion. i am just hoping that it performs amazingly because then it would be a definite buy. the evo x is just plain ugly and im glad that Mitsubishi screwed up.

That matte black is really really cool, and will make it that much easier to hide from the cops! :) I am totally diggin the 08 sti. Its looks, coupled with the hatch back, scream at me to take every corner sideways

yes, matte black color is amazing.
but i don’t think there will be that color in line.. it’s a “test mule” color

I LOVE QUAD PIPES! its like they took them off an M5.
Wide body kit, Lower stance, Fender Flares, Mesh Grill, 18inch wheels, and a functional wing. I’ma be waiting in line for this thing like i’m getting an iPhone lol. and they haven’t even released the performance specs yet. *drool*

sure it will

impreza wrc is not fast as citroen&ford because of it’s size. impreza is bigger, ‘cuz it’s a sedan not a hatchback.

now, new impreza is a hatch. new wrc champion!

Maybe it’ll help for the WRC title, but I must say that I liked very much the “attitude” of the sedan. Hatches always had a more “soccer mom” touch. For me, even if I’m a Subaru owner and with all the respect I have for the brand, I think Mitsubishi’s styling if much more agressive. I respect a lot the fact that they sticked to the concept which is rarely the case these days.

I’ll give Subaru a chance until I see one in real. Hope I will not be disapointed.

To be honest, the STi mule has to be one of the best looking test mules I’ve ever seen of any car.

I thought the Evo X prototype pictures looked awesome, but the closer it gets to production form, the less hard-edged it starts to look. The wheels look wimpier, the fog lamps aren’t LED anymore, etc.

I think once all is said and done the STi will be the sexy. Besides, hot hatches are the future!

At the end of the day both cars will be fast (and ugly). The WRX/2.5i will outsell the STi. And the Evo will win one more (article, race, test, comparison, etc.) than the STi as always.

Choose your poison, it doesn’t really matter. Drive hard and have fun.

btw, as i see many of u guys don’t know that there will be mitsi’s analog of the wrx(deforced sti) - mitsi lancer gti or something, with 160kw of power and awd

so, this lancer gti will compete with wrx, evo will compete with sti

civic type-r will win, lol!
