2008 Subaru Impreza WRX - NEW PHOTO!
Subaru are working on the totally new legendary japan hot-sport car - Subaru Impreza WRX STi. It seems that the new Impreza WRX 2008 will be a hatchback inspired by old B5-THP concept car.

Front end - good. Back end - hope they rethink that a bit.
But Subaru has a history of putting out really nice looking “nearly production” shots, then tweaking things for the worse when it comes to production. Some pre-production shots of the B9 Tribeca looked nice - then they made the center “air intake” thingy bigger and it all went to hell. Please Subaru, don’t do that with this one. PLEASE!?!?

Naaaaaaaah… this isn’t it. Once again, it’s a virtually tuned interpretation of the 2008 Impreza. Why? Look at the tail-lights! Those are 2005 lights turned upside-down. I definitely hope I’m right because this thing does not deserve an impreza name on it.

I hope, at least in the U.S., they do not get away from a sedan. I like a hatchback, but a sedan offers more practicality and style. Just think BMW - sedan/sports car line blurred.
I really hope that they do not go with a hatchback. I like sedans and sports cars. Honestly, I think that subaru should make the 2.5rs and the wrx sedans just like they are now, just sportier and sleeker. They should make the STi a 2 door 4 seater like the skyline or supra. Since it is the rawest, fastest car in the subaru family, why not make it even sportier. I own a 2004 STi with mods, and love it. But I bought the car to go fast, not buy groceries and take the kids to school. I like 4 seats and 4 doors is kinda nice, but I think that a 2 door would look sexier, and you’d still have 4 seats so the practicality would still be there. Also, the gears need to be taller, and the internals should be forged, and the turbo should be bigger. Power drops off too much towards redline. If they could make the power that is already there in the midrange hold all the way to redline, then the car would be a lot more fun to drive. And they really need to get rid of that damn top mount intercooler and go with a front mount. Heat soak after the motor gets hot drops power so much its not even funny. You should never put the heat exchanger on top of the hottest part of the car. It should always be away from engine heat and in the direct path of ambient airflow. And no, a hoodscoop just doesn’t cut it. STUPID subaru, STUPID! Also, they should go with bilstein suspension like the evo mr ( god I hate mitsubishi so much, but they did a good job with the suspension on that car ), or maybe even go all out and put ohlins racing coilovers like the lotus exige. Now that would be cool! Also, maybe even go with a turbo H-6 motor instead of the H-4. No one here in the states really cares about the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder group n rally homologation rules, most of us buy the car for street and track, not rally. So we wouldn’t be able to use a 3.0 liter H-6 in a rally race, but we would kick some serious ass on a road race course. Anyway, I’m done sounding off. yeah i know, I own a 2004 STi. The point that I was making with the 2.0 liter rally regulation in japan is that people over here in the states dont really care about that, and since subaru gave us a 2.5, they obviously know that. So what I was saying was, if thats the case then why not go even bigger. A 3.0 liter 4 cylinder is not really practical when 6 cylinders would be much more efficient with that kind of displacement. Perrin Performance did a swap with the 3.0 liter H-6 tribeca motor, put custom forged internals and turbocharged it, and the numbers speak for themselves. I spoke with Jeff Perrin personally, and he said that with the right turbo that engine will crank out a whopping 1000+ HP! Now im not saying that subaru should go that big with the turbo, but they should be easily able to put out 400 HP from the factory, and it would be a much better base to build on. Why do U think that the Supra and Skyline can make so much power when modifying them? Because “there’s no replacement for displacement.” Number of cylinders is crucial for turbo spool and overall powerband too. I mean look at the Skyline…2.8 liter straight 6. Supra, 2.8-3.0 liter straight 6 (depending on year and JDM or USDM). 35O Z, 3.0 liter v6, see a pattern here. Anyway, think about it and Im sure that you will see my point. Lata

Please don’t ever make this car, ever! i was looking forward to something that could actually compete with the Evo X. Don’t do it Subaru, don’t do it. Im a jap and i still don’t even like this ugly piece of crap!
SEDAN FOREVERRRRRRR
Ok, I just need to respond to the guy who mentioned “Who cares about rallys here in the states, give us a 6″ - Dude, it IS a rally car. If you want a street car, go buy one. You listed 2 or 3 of them. That’s like saying “I want the STI to be more like a minivan because I want to bring my kids”. They built the car for rallys, so they are going to conform to the rally rules. Why would you go through all the trouble of changing production for 1 market when the rest of the world buys it for what it is? When I was in Europe, they love the STI and a ton of the use it for rallys. Though you CAN add the other engine, it is not just as simple as dropping it in and saying “done!”. You have to change a ton of things and you are doing it for a market that really doesn’t buy the bulk of these cars. They have done a ton to the STI to improve it over the Impreza, so it is not like they are creating an inferior product. Could it be faster? Sure, and I would bet that any of those other cars you mention can be better too. You even mentioned a 350Z. That car has less HP than the STI, so the fact that is has a 6 means nothing. You still have to do more to improve it. Fact is, the more you do, the more it costs, so they are not going to introduce a $70k sports car to the market so that 8 people in the US will buy it. All the tuners out there bark about wanting more HP and then try to make it fit into a Civic budget. Fact is, I hear it all the time - “If they only would do this and this to compete with X, they would rock!”. Then I say, “Can you afford a $70k car?” . . . then you hear the “Well, no, but it would be cool!”. Auto makers can’t survive on “cool” credit. It is a rally car, based on the type of racing that is done in 90% of the world (not this oval track crap), and it will be that way for it’s lifetime. There is no need to Americanize it to make it go in a strait line or around a circle better. See the forest for the trees.

This should never happen. Not only the ugliest impreza but also the ugliest car on planet. If they cancel sedan I’m going to tear of all my impreza posters of the walls. If they manufacture this mistake and call it impreza I will never buy a subaru and I will have to forget all 10 years of my fascination and start liking evo. Don’t do it, I beg you. Think about the WRC, the fans, and everyone that love impreza. Think about all the suicides and the sorrow. You will kill the legend and commit a blasphemy. No one will forgive you, you will be condemned.

I love Subaru Impreza sti starting from the ones from 1993 to 2007, but if The sti turns into that UGLY thing on the top it would be very dissapointing! And that brake light is the 2006-07 lights turn upside down if u turned it over.
Like the RS Turbo in the 90s, I was an avid Mitsubishi Galant fan. Until their demise I jumped camp and became a Subaru enthusiast. I even bought two Subarus - a WRX and a Liberty. When the bug eyes model were released, I kind of forgave Subaru because they partially fixed their mistake. Then, although not impressed with the aeroplane concept, my initial thought is perhaps the next generation will be a better looking car. Mr Ikuo Mori, I believe you have fooled lots of fans. I, for one will simply take my business elsewhere - the idea of having the new Mitsubishi EVO sitthing on my driveway appears to be at closer reach.

why do subaru keep goin bk to tha hatchback when the salooon is one of the best sport cars . last time they tried the hatchback it didnt work out n i dont know wats the thinking behind this. compare this to the old imprezas..

That’s obviously a fake picture. The front looks quite legitimate, but the rear brakelights are just 2006 Impreza headlights flipped upside down. And I really hope they don’t release a hatchback. Imprezas just seem more suited to the saloon (hey, I’m English) body shape.

Well, this is the first time im commenting on your site. The model does look a little cool. Its good for a change. Sedan is a Sedan and the STI should change to be the monster it is on WRC. It should be lighter than the STI 9 im prettly much sure off.
Also guys, i need some help. Im living in Sri Lanka and own a Legacy B4, 2000. Would like to know whether you know of a place where i could ship down Timing Belt kit?

its ok but the new subarus your making just make it look luxury sort a subaru impreza its ment to look very sporty more like a beast the only best subarus wich i can say deserve there name is the subaru 22b very fast,subaru type rand type RA very kwik and handlebull but now the cars your starting to make, a subarus name change to a nissan pulsar ihave a 1998 subaru typeRA sitting in ma parking area and that you might say uuuuhhhh a 1998 but wen u sit inside it and see how beasty it is then you can really taste the subaru imprezas speed and look .so please you have to stop making friendly cars
